The Roto-Molding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined amount of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and strength, producing a faulty item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which develops bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the product has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another step that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding step.
As soon as the material inside te mould has cooled correctly, the person handling the process can then extract the finished product from the mould. The process is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of exact product lines.
