The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. Something that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, making a poor product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional measure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
As soon as the material inside te mould has cooled properly, the person handling the operation can then remove the finalized product from the mould. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of exact product lines.
