The Rotomolding Process in Detail

1. Mould prep work.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put into the oven.
2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. The main thing that is vital at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, producing a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized item.
3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the product.
4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the process can then extract the completed item from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, providing a series of exact products.
