The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

1. Mold readying.
A fixed volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and strength, creating a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is one more procedure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding phase.
Once the material inside te mold has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the procedure can then take out the completed item from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of exact product lines.
