The Rotomoulding Method Components

This molding system has been used since early times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for example, worked with rotocasting techniques in the creating of ceramics. 1. Mold preparation.
A fixed volume of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color tone intended for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. Something that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, making a poor item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which produces bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the product.

4. The removing or de-molding phase.
When the component inside te mould has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the process can then remove the finished product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, giving a series of similar items.
