The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. One thing that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and strength, generating a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which creates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
Once the material inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person managing the process can then remove the completed item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the start, supplying a series of exact product lines.
