The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color chosen for the end goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is crucial at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose stability and strength, producing a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is another procedure that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding step.
When the product inside te mold has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the operation can then remove the finished product from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of similar items.
