The Rotomolding Process Components

This molding system has been used since early times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians as an example, used rotational molding techniques in the producing of ceramics. 1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined amount of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color tone preferred for the end item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. The main thing that is essential at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, making a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another procedure that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
Once the product inside te mould has cooled effectively, the person handling the operation can then extract the finished product from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, making a number of similar product lines.
