The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold prep work.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per sixty seconds. The main thing that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and strength, making a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is an additional step that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the product within te mold has cooled properly, the molder taking care of the procedure can then extract the finished item from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of similar items.
