The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, generating a weak product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another step that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the product.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component inside te mold has cooled properly, the person handling the operation can then remove the completed product from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, giving a series of identical products.
