The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold readying.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the component inside te mould has cooled successfully, the person handling the procedure can then extract the finished product from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of similar products.
