The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold preparation.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. The main thing that is essential at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, making a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which generates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding phase.
When the component inside te mould has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the procedure can then extract the finalized item from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, giving a series of identical products.
