The Rotomolding Method in Detail

This moulding technique has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for instance, used rotational molding solutions in the of ceramics. 1. Mold preparation.
A fixed measure of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color tone preferred for the end product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and durability, making a weak product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding phase.
Once the material inside te mould has cooled adequately, the molder taking care of the process can then take out the finished product from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, providing a series of similar products.
