The Roto-Molding Process Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed volume of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mould. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color desired for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. One thing that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, producing a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too rapidly, causing warping of the product.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
As soon as the material within te mold has cooled successfully, the person managing the operation can then remove the finalized product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of exact items.
