The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The colour desired for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. One thing that is important at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and strength, creating a poor item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which generates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The removing or de-molding step.
When the component within te mould has cooled correctly, the person handling the operation can then take out the completed product from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of similar product lines.
