The Rotomolding Process Components

1. Mold readying.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, producing a poor product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which develops bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more step that relies a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-moulding phase.
When the product inside te mold has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the process can then take out the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of exact product lines.
