The Roto-Molding Procedure Components

1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined amount of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color needed for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, making a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the material inside te mold has cooled correctly, the molder handling the procedure can then remove the finalized product from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, providing a number of identical products.
