1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined volume of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The colour chosen for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per min. The main thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and strength, producing a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which creates bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing warping of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding phase.
When the product within te mould has cooled properly, the person handling the operation can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The technique is repeated from the start, making a series of identical products.
