The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould readying.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. One thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the material.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
When the component inside te mold has cooled correctly, the molder handling the operation can then take out the completed item from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, making a number of identical items.
