1. Mould preparation.
A fixed volume of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and put into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 revolutions per min. The main thing that is essential at this point is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, generating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is another step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
When the material inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person managing the operation can then remove the finished product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, providing a number of identical items.
