The Rotomoulding Procedure Components

1. Mold readying.
A predetermined amount of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and positioned into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once inside the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. One thing that is important at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and strength, making a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mould. This is another procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing warping of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
When the product within te mold has cooled correctly, the person handling the operation can then take out the finished item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, making a series of identical items.
