The Rotomolding Process Components

This moulding operation has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for example, utilized rotocasting methods in the creating of ceramics. 1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color intended for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion step.
Once within the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. The main thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and durability, creating a faulty item. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is yet another measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
Once the component within te mould has cooled successfully, the person handling the process can then remove the finished product from the mold. The process is repeated from the start, providing a number of similar product lines.
