The Rotomolding Process Components

1. Mould readying.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is crucial at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose stability and durability, making a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which develops bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The offloading or de-moulding step.
As soon as the material within te mold has cooled successfully, the person managing the operation can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, giving a series of exact products.
