The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The colour needed for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once within the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. Something that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, producing a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional step that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing warping of the material.

4. The removing or de-moulding phase.
When the component within te mold has cooled adequately, the person managing the process can then take out the finalized item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a number of similar product lines.
