The Rotomoulding Procedure in Detail

This moulding method has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for example, used rotational molding systems in the of ceramics. 1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined volume of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The color tone intended for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and placed within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 rotations per min. One thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and strength, creating a faulty product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks a little for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
Once the product inside te mold has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the procedure can then take out the completed item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of identical product lines.
