The Rotomolding Process in Detail

1. Mould readying.
A fixed measure of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color intended for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and put within the oven.

2. The heat and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is critical at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, generating a poor product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which produces bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional measure that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
Once the material inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person managing the operation can then take out the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, supplying a number of exact items.
