The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. Something that is crucial at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, generating a faulty product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another step that depends upon a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing warping of the product.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
When the component within te mould has cooled correctly, the person managing the process can then take out the finished product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, making a number of similar items.
