The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined volume of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color preferred for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mould is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. One thing that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, making a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which produces bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The discharging or de-moulding step.
When the material inside te mold has cooled adequately, the molder taking care of the operation can then remove the finalized item from the mould. The process is repeated from the start, giving a number of identical items.
