The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mold prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color chosen for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mold is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per min. The main thing that is essential at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose stability and durability, creating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which develops bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is an additional procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding step.
As soon as the product within te mold has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the procedure can then take out the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, making a number of identical product lines.
