The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mold preparation.

2. The heating and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is important at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and durability, generating a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the material has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is one more procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-molding step.
Once the component inside te mold has cooled successfully, the person handling the process can then extract the finished item from the mould. The process is repeated from the start, making a series of similar product lines.
