The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined volume of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mold. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and put into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is vital at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and durability, generating a poor item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The offloading or de-molding step.
When the material inside te mold has cooled effectively, the molder handling the operation can then take out the finalized product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of exact items.
