The Rotomoulding Process Components

1. Mould prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The colour desired for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this format of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and inserted inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is important at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a weak product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
When the component within te mold has cooled successfully, the person taking care of the process can then remove the finished product from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, supplying a series of similar items.
