The Rotomolding Method Components

This molding operation has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for example, employed roto-molding systems in the making of ceramics. 1. Mold readying.
A fixed volume of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The colour intended for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed within the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, generating a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional step that depends a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding phase.
When the product within te mould has cooled effectively, the molder taking care of the process can then take out the finished product from the mold. The function is repeated from the beginning, giving a number of similar products.
