The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mold fitting.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. Something that is critical at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, making a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which generates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too fast, causing warping of the item.

4. The discharging or de-molding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled adequately, the person handling the operation can then remove the completed item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, giving a series of similar product lines.
