The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mold preparation.
A fixed amount of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The coloration intended for the end item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is crucial at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and durability, creating a poor item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another procedure that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too fast, causing warping of the product.

4. The un-loading or de-moulding phase.
Once the material within te mould has cooled correctly, the molder taking care of the process can then extract the completed item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, giving a series of similar product lines.
