1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined volume of polymer in grain form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this type of plastic engineering.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and installed within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is critical at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose stability and durability, creating a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is yet another step that relies a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
When the component within te mold has cooled properly, the molder handling the operation can then take out the finalized item from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, giving a number of similar items.
