The Rotomolding Procedure Components

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed amount of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually made of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The most generally used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and inserted into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly, about 20 rotations per sixty seconds. The main thing that is crucial at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and strength, producing a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing warping of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
Once the product inside te mould has cooled properly, the molder taking care of the operation can then take out the finalized product from the mold. The technique is repeated from the beginning, providing a series of similar product lines.
