The Roto-Molding Method Components

1. Mould prep work.
A predetermined measure of polymer in powder form is filled into a hollow mold. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color needed for the final product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic manufacturing.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then sealed and positioned into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is important at this point is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose value and strength, producing a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished item.

3. Mold cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more procedure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing bending of the product.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
When the product inside te mold has cooled successfully, the molder taking care of the process can then extract the completed item from the mold. The technique is repeated from the start, supplying a series of similar product lines.
