The Rotomolding Method Components

This moulding system has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl items. Egyptians for example, used rotocasting techniques in the of ceramics. 1. Mould prep work.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The color desired for the final goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and placed into the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 revolutions per minute. Something that is vital at this point is the period of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose stability and strength, producing a weak item. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has completely spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mold. This is another procedure that depends upon a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing bending of the material.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
As soon as the material within te mould has cooled adequately, the molder handling the operation can then extract the completed item from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, providing a number of similar products.
