The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed measure of polymer in particle form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The colour needed for the end item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic manufacturing.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and placed inside the oven.

2. The heat and fusion phase.
Once inside the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose stability and strength, generating a weak product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have flowed correctly, which creates bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more procedure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing warping of the product.

4. The removing or de-moulding step.
Once the component within te mould has cooled successfully, the person managing the process can then take out the finished product from the mould. The function is repeated from the start, making a number of exact items.
