1. Mould preparation.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mould. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most often used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and put into the oven.

2. The heating and fusion process.
Once inside the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly, about 20 rotations per min. Something that is essential at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and strength, creating a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which creates bubbles in the finalized product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is one more step that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing warping of the product.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the component within te mould has cooled correctly, the person handling the process can then take out the finalized item from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, making a series of identical items.
