The Rotomoulding Method Components

1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined volume of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mould. The mold is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The color chosen for the finished item is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then sealed and put inside the oven.

2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is critical at this point is the period of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the component will lose stability and durability, generating a poor product. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which generates bubbles in the completed product.

3. Mould cooling.
When the material has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is an additional step that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing bending of the material.

4. The discharging or de-molding step.
When the component within te mold has cooled adequately, the person taking care of the operation can then remove the completed product from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the beginning, making a number of identical items.
