The Rotomolding Method in Detail

This molding method has been used since earlier times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians as an example, employed rotomoulding techniques in the producing of ceramics. 1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel material. The color chosen for the end product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and inserted into the oven.

2. The heat and fusion procedure.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is turned on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mold. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 rotations per min. One thing that is important at this point is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the material will lose stability and durability, generating a faulty product. If it is removed from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted correctly, which creates bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the product cools, it reduces slightly for ease of extraction from the mould. This is yet another measure that relies a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too fast, causing warping of the product.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
Once the material inside te mold has cooled properly, the molder managing the procedure can then extract the finalized product from the mould. The process is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of exact items.
