The Rotomolding Method Components

1. Mould fitting.
A predetermined volume of polymer in grain form is filled into a hollow mould. The mould is usually built from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The colour intended for the finished product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this style of plastic engineering.

Pre-heating of the oven follows, and it can be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. One thing that is essential at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose stability and durability, producing a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have melted properly, which produces bubbles in the finished product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the material has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the product cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another measure that depends upon a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too rapidly, causing warping of the item.

4. The offloading or de-moulding phase.
As soon as the component within te mold has cooled adequately, the molder handling the procedure can then take out the completed item from the mold. The process is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of exact items.
