The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mold readying.
A fixed amount of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mould is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. 2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once inside the oven, the mould is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and coats the inside if the mould. The turning is done slowly and gradually, about 20 spins per sixty seconds. The main thing that is crucial at this point is the period of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and durability, producing a weak item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which develops bubbles in the finalized product.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This can be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mould. This is another measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling reduces the material too quickly, causing bending of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
As soon as the material within te mold has cooled properly, the molder managing the process can then extract the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, providing a series of similar products.
