The Rotomoulding Procedure in Detail

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mold. The mould is usually constructed from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The coloring chosen for the finished goods is pre compounded into the polymer. The most typically used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then locked and installed inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion step.
Once placed into the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done gradually, about 20 spins per minute. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend inside the oven. If it overstays, the component will lose value and durability, producing a poor item. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have melted properly, which creates bubbles in the completed item.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it reduces a little for ease of removal from the mold. This is an additional measure that depends a lot on the ideal timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The unloading or de-molding step.
When the product within te mold has cooled properly, the person handling the process can then extract the finished item from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, giving a series of exact products.
