The Rotomolding Method in Detail

1. Mold prep work.
A predetermined quantity of polymer in particle form is filled into a hollow mold. The mold is usually composeded of cast aluminium or sheet steel component. 2. The heating and fusion procedure.
Once within the oven, the mold is rotated on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The turning is done gradually, about 20 spins per min. Something that is important at this point is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it overstays, the product will lose value and strength, producing a faulty item. If it is taken out from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which develops bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mold cooling down.
When the product has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then extracted for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which a cool mist. When the material cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more procedure that relies a lot on the right timing, since quick cooling reduces the material too quick, causing warping of the item.

4. The unloading or de-moulding phase.
Once the component within te mold has cooled adequately, the molder handling the operation can then take out the finalized item from the mold. The procedure is repeated from the start, giving a number of similar product lines.
