The Rotomoulding Procedure Components

This molding procedure has been used since ancient times for creatingvseverl products. Egyptians for example, used rotocasting methods in the producing of ceramics. 1. Mould preparation.
A predetermined volume of polymer in powder form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mold is usually made from cast aluminium or sheet steel component. The colour chosen for the end product is pre compounded into the polymer. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic assembly.

Pre-heating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is warmed to temperatures between 500-700F. The mould with the powdered polymer is then secured and put inside the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mould. The rotation is done slowly and gradually, about 20 revolutions per min. The main thing that is important at this moment is the amount of time the mold will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and strength, producing a faulty product. If it is extracted from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which produces bubbles in the finalized item.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has sufficiently spent the correct amount of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which generates a cool mist. When the component cools, it reduces slightly for ease of removal from the mould. This is yet another procedure that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too quick, causing warping of the item.

4. The un-loading or de-molding step.
When the product within te mold has cooled successfully, the person handling the operation can then take out the completed product from the mold. The function is repeated from the start, making a series of identical product lines.
