The Rotomoulding Method in Detail

1. Mold fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in grain form is loaded into a hollow mold. The mould is usually comprised of cast aluminium or sheet steel material. 2. The heating up and fusion phase.
Once within the oven, the mould is spun on two axis so the powdered polymer melts from the heat and overlays the inside if the mold. The turning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. One thing that is vital at this moment is the amount of time the mould will spend inside the oven. If it stays to long, the product will lose value and strength, producing a weak item. If it is taken out from the oven too early, the polymer will not have liquefied correctly, which produces bubbles in the finished product line.

3. Mould cooling down.
When the product has completely spent the right amount of time in the oven, it is then taken out for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks somewhat for ease of extraction from the mold. This is one more measure that depends a lot on the correct timing, since rapid cooling decreases the material too quickly, causing bending of the material.

4. The un-loading or de-molding phase.
When the material inside te mold has cooled correctly, the person taking care of the procedure can then extract the finished item from the mould. The function is repeated from the beginning, supplying a number of identical products.
