The Rotomoulding Process in Detail

1. Mould fitting.
A fixed quantity of polymer in powder form is packed into a hollow mould. The mould is usually crafted from cast aluminium or sheet steel substance. The most commonly used powder resin is polythene, but polyvinyl chloride and nylon can also be used in this design of plastic production.

Preheating of the oven starts, and it may be done by either conduction, convection or sometimes radiation. It is heated up to temperatures between 500-700F. The mold with the powdered polymer is then locked and positioned within the oven.

2. The heating up and fusion process.
Once placed into the oven, the mould is revolved on two axis so the powdered polymer liquefies from the heat and layers the inside if the mould. The spinning is done gradually, about 20 rotations per minute. The main thing that is critical at this moment is the period of time the mould will spend within the oven. If it stays to long, the material will lose value and strength, creating a faulty item. If it is extracted from the oven prematurely, the polymer will not have liquefied properly, which generates bubbles in the completed product line.

3. Mould cooling.
When the component has completely spent the enough of time in the oven, it is then removed for cooling. This may be done by air or water, or sometimes a mixture of both which creates a cool mist. When the component cools, it shrinks slightly for ease of extraction from the mold. This is another measure that depends a lot on the right timing, since rapid cooling shrinks the material too rapidly, causing warping of the item.

4. The unloading or de-molding phase.
Once the component within te mold has cooled correctly, the molder handling the procedure can then remove the completed product from the mould. The procedure is repeated from the start, supplying a number of exact product lines.
